-man

   Added by some speakers to professional descriptions in order to form a vocative. It is sometimes redundant, as in ‘sailorman’, ‘soldierman’, where ‘sailor’, ‘soldier’ would serve equally well. It is also added to words which would not normally be used as vocatives, e.g. ‘reporterman’. Such words are also converted into nonce names, of the ‘Mr Reporterman’ type.
